Excellent long term decision to let Gano go to the Panthers. Of course he had a FG blocked earlier.

No way they let KC test FA. He'll be a Redskin for the next 4 to 6 years with a new contract. Now, close game by the Giants and they almost pulled the upset but they lost and now we need the Eagles to lose. Hopefully, the Cardinals win and we have a bit of a cushion for next week in case we lose but better news is IF we win next week, we win the division. I got to think that DJ can't wait to play his old team in Philly. Just thinking.

I sent a tweet to Rich Tandler and told him the 5th year option money RG3 WAS going to get would be KC's yearly contract earnings and he told me that was too high. Rich better re-evaluate.

Correct me if I'm wrong PC but didn't both Alex Smith and Tannehill get contracts that after 2 years basically gave their respect teams halfway decent outs. What I mean is after the second year of their deal they could have been cut with a sizable amount of cap savings . I'm all for Cousins getting 4-5 years 85 million and after second year of the deal we should be able to cut him with some savings. I could be wrong but I thought I saw their contracts structured that way .

The deal I outline in my sig gives him more guaranteed money (and only because the first year salary is guaranteed) but allows you to get out of the deal after 2-3 years without too much pain if it all goes bad. After two years you could cut Cousins with a cap saving of $2m (that is savings on yearly salary and bonuses - $14m - offset prorated signing bonus remaining - $12m). You don't screw around with QB's. When you find one you pay them what they are worth because its taken 25 years to find anyone this good.

Also in Tannehill's deal the $45m in guarantees aren't true guarantees, you'd never save $13m if they were. That is basically a two year, $21m deal - all guaranteed. He'll never see years 3-5 where the huge unguaranteed money is. Given Tannehill looks about as good as Foles right now its probably about right.
Bad example to use for Cousins, and if he's offered that, and it sends this organisation into another tailspin because of it, I'll stop following this team....period.

Considering the last QB we drafted that became a franchise caliber QB for us was Eddie LeBaron in 1950, you don't let a potential one walk away. Pay the man what he is worth. If it turns out to be a bad deal, it won't be the first time...or the end of the world.

Just to summarise .....
My contract Kirk gets $29m in total guarantees and you can get out of the contract after year 2.
Tannehill got $21.5m guaranteed for two years.
Cousins playing at a significantly higher level than Tannehill.
Sounds fair to me.

Just to add Kirk's cap number in 2016 (and every year) under my contract structure would be a base of $19m (not inc any LTBE incentives although I guess they will be for higher performance criteria then he finishes with this year to make at least 2016 NLTBE).
RGIII's option currently sits at $16.5m and will go up as the upper end of the QB's contract average rises.

The day after our season ends our guys should sit down with his guys and start to hammer this thing out. BTW, who do you think the BPA will be at pick #32? HTTR Baby!

His price is going to go through the roof if he wins the NFC East on the road in hostile Philly. Skins should make him a big offer now and see if they can extend him before this weekend because otherwise Snyder will have to back up the Brinks' truck.

Doubt it happens Phil.
1) Skins won't want distractions around contract leading into such a crucuail game and then possibly playoffs, and 2) If I was his agent I'd be keeping dialogue open but with no intention of agreeing to anything until after the season is over - his price can only go up

Question--Doesn't the the option of Franchise tag help the Skins in this matter. I mean if your Kirk and your being offered huge long term money for your 2nd contract especially for a 4th round player, wouldn't he be inclined to take it in fear Redskins Tag him. If the Redskins tag him yes he gets a huge 1 year deal but he could get hurt , regress etc . That leaves his long term in doubt. So don't the Skins have some leverage here as well? Just asking.

They do have some and it may work once, but you can't FT a guy forever. However, what message does FT'ing Cousins send to Kirk and, just as importantly, the rest of the team? His price could also go up over the next 12 months - esp the guaranteed component. Honestly I think when you find the best QB since Rypien you sign the guy up to a deal that you can get out of after 2, maybe 3, years. So give him the long term deal and $$$ amount that shows you value him but build in the protections like I put in my contract structure. Everybody wins. Everyone is happy and the FT is kept available for other players if required.

Could we void Griffin's contract now, or even the moment our season ends...or do we have to wait until the start of the '16 league year after a physical? If we have to wait, and Kirk's camp won't sign an extension/new deal until Griffin is gone, then we may have to use the FT to keep him from FA and then work on a new deal once Griffin is gone.

I think everybody will be made very happy between the start of February and mid-March. An article like the one linked should do enough to assure him of the FO's love for now.
