There has been some talk about whether Songbird is the best American three-year-old of either gender--remember, she's a she. I suspect that talk has now been tabled.
The Travers Stakes is always one of the big prizes for U.S. three-year-olds. It isn't as well known outside of racing circles as the Triple Crown races are, but think of it as a top-level contest in the same division, but after these colts have had a few more months to mature and develop. There are some colts who, for one reason or another, are not ready in the spring, but by late summer...well, that's what happened here.
I don't think Songbird can compete with this. I'm not sure California Chrome or Frosted, the two best older horses in training, can compete with this. Looking forward to the Breeders' Cup.

So...next up will be a major jump up in class in the Breeders' Cup Distaff on November 4. Songbird has defeated all her notable three-year-old peers, but there are several older mares out there who are better than anything she's faced thus far.
