Johnny Manziel? Apr 4, 2018 13:05:25 GMT -5

We are in one of those dreaded dead zones in the NFL year. So I pulled the pin and tossed the grenade out there.
I fully expected it to get trashed and stomped into dust, so I'm more than a little surprised it has been received as well as it has.
Well when you are as needy at the most important position on a football team as we are....then need to explore all possibilities. Regardless of your POV on AS, he is really a short term answer at QB. We need someone young....not named Colt...over the next year or so to come in and learn....and possibly be in a position to inherit the team either via injury, retirement, or when we move on from AS for any other reason. So I am open to discussion on that topic.
Manziel, though, just brings up thoughts of a very young and immature kid who just didn't seem to get it....a hard partier who reached the NFL, and the Brownies (to their credit) didn't put up with his lies. So sure, the initial reaction to the thread is "you cannot be serious". But many of us have done very dumb stuff at an early age, and failed to listen to sage advice from their parents and others (if you ask my wife, I still do dumb stuff and I am 58....lol). So as long as he has truly "grown up".....then I am more ok with additional opportunities.
But you and I seem to be on similar wavelengths at least in the gameday threads....and I certainly agree with most of your thoughts in your posts as well. So after my first post, I decided to spend a couple of idle minutes actually researching what you had said. And as I posted above...after listening to some clips....I buy into his changed persona as well. I think it is actually genuine.
That said...there are still significant questions around him. Can he maintain his recovery, especially if he sniffs some success in his comeback attempt. Also...can he actually play the QB position at an NFL level? I still believe his best bet is to head to the CFL, under June Jones, and prove himself there. We could certainly talk with him, with Williams or Gruden, to see what they think. But even though we have a lot of TS roster spots....we also have a lot of holes. I would prefer to bring in players who will compete for those holes right now...let Manziel prove his metal to some extent in CFL...then be poised to make an offer based on his play and conduct there.
