www.cbssports.com/fantasy/football/news/redskins-josh-doctson-dealing-with-heel-injury/Doctson was not present at Wednesday's practice as he deals with an apparent heel injury, John Keim of ESPN.com reports. Doctson sustained the previously undisclosed injury as he had his heel stepped on at some point since the Week 3 win over the Packers. The Redskins will release their official injury report Thursday, which should provide more information on the 25-year-old's injury situation.

his new nickname should be "MASH" or "Glass" should not have even made the 53 cut in my opinion.

I have not given up on Doctson yet---he really needs to make substantial progress this season and this heel injury could be a real problem--he has certainly been a disappointment for such a high pick

Excuse for the disappearing act he's pulled thus far this season?

Ive been of the opinion that Doctson was a weak selection since he was drafted and evidence point after evidence point has born that true.
josh is a wasted effort and continuing the process w him to, at best only tease, more likely just to be opportunity cost each snap he gets is poor team management.
Watch the coaching and team reaction around josh and it appears they while remaining professional on the matter would be just as happy to move on.
Sunk cost so let’s and move on. John Ross in Cincinnati has a similar failed relationship there. I’d set up a swap and call it a day.
Speed of the rarest variety is worth a flier vs 50/50 that doesn’t give very much effort.
In the meantime let’s put a guy that gives his all on the field. Next up.

I hope when the rookies are cleared to come off of IR that we simply release Malcolm Doctson. I don't even want to try and get a bag of footballs for him. He's one of the top 5 draft busts of all time for the Skins. And that's a hard club to break into.

I railed at the Doctson pick as well, knowing we needed DL help and could have grabbed Bama’s Reed (who has played well with the Seahawks) or the Big Boy Butler from LA Tech that the stalwart Panthers’ D now has.
The whole ‘In Scot We Trust’ meme, in hindsight, is laughable. Who among us now would swap Kyle Smith for Scot McCloughan? I mean, gimme a break.
Still, Doctson has talent and is still writing his NFL story.
But ... truthfully, am I the only one who is excited to see if Jay can resurrect Michael Floyd like Adrian Peterson and Vernon Davis before him?

I must be the only one who DOESNT think Doctson has talent. At least none that I have seen.

So over this guy. Anyone who thinks Josh is just going to "get it" and start producing like a #1 pick should is in serious, serious denial. He's not even at a #3 level. Just sit him and move on with someone who can actually give us a chance.
Just for once, I'd love for us to somehow, some way be able to draft a stud WR and QB. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that is something this organization is capable of.

He got his heel stepped on 10 days ago and can't practice. Wow. Epitome of soft.
Michael Floyd, welcome to DC.

The latest heel issues aside, if Josh Doctson can't provide improved separation on his routes; or, if he continues to allow opposing DB's to physically manhandled him and take him out of the play; then, there will be no way or means for Alex to gain the essential trust in him that he will be "on time" and "where he is supposed to be" in the pattern. Doctson purely as a WR, will continue pose too much risk to throw to. This is exactly where he is today.
The 'injuries' are the least of his concerns. If he doesn't start playing NFL football he will not have a job anywhere in this League. Kirk is right in that he is playing very soft and while explosive, can't get a step on a DB to save his life.

All true, Nack. And as we both feel, why this organization is erring when it takes wideouts on Round #1 (James Arthur Monk notwithstanding). Truly, I'm hoping Michael Floyd gets an opportunity, takes Doc's job, and has a renaissance not unlike Davis and Peterson before him. Fingers crossed! John, Maybe so. But answer me this: did you think Vernon Davis had ANYTHING left after the Broncos didn't use him in their last Super Bowl run, when Manning essentially shunned him? And I don't know about you, but as hopeful as I was about Adrian Peterson, I knew there was potential downside and maybe too much 'wishful thinking' in my mind after the disappointment of losing Guice for 2018. Really a shame that Cam Sims was injured in pre-season. I would have liked to have seen more of him....though raw. Not in a leading role, but out on the field gaining experience.
Like '79....I have not given up on Doc yet....but with each passing game...with each story or comment I read that reflects questionable desire and work ethic....my optimism for him fades.
We are 3 games into the season. To me he has another 5 or so games to make an impression...have a couple of WOW games. And it is more difficult considering our varied attack on offense...and the possibility that AS does not have full confidence in him. Or Jay for that matter.

Are you sensing Floyd's demons, even if now under control, have robbed him of the ability to have a late career renaissance like Davis and Peterson? Probably so, but I'm holding out 'homer' hope to be really surprised. John, Maybe so. Right now, Doc is an injury-prone version of former first rounder wideout Rod Gardner, old 50-50. He does a lot wrong, and drops too many balls for my tastes. My longshot hope for Floyd is probably not going to materialize, but I like Mo Harris and I think he's over his concussion symptoms / out of the league's 'concussion protocol' evaluation / recovery period. I suspect will see what Mo's got come Monday. Really a shame that Cam Sims was injured in pre-season. I would have liked to have seen more of him....though raw. In addition to his worthless performance, the team also needs to start setting the tone that the franchise no longer accepts half assed efforts and constant boo boos.

JP Finley says he's out today too. What an egghsell. I don't think practice really will matter much in the case of Doctson. He needs to beat Defenders, not team mates. He can be impressive in Practice, but unless he is impressive in games he won't last much longer. Actually, I want him at full health and have no more reasons not to excel. This is on him alone. He must step up and elevate his game or we need to replace him. We can't afford to wait on him any longer. We need receiving help now.

I think the job is Maurice Harris' to lose, personally speaking. He makes the tough sideline catches required from that position as Doctson's replacement and consistently gets enough separation to get the job done. He can play any position on the field and knows the playbook inside out and can run the routes correctly the first time. Alex has worked with him a full Training Camp and while they can work on their timing in Practice this week on the out throws, they are basically on the same page already. The same can not yet be said of Floyd, who is a real WIP, not just on the Playbook but more importantly on his timing with Alex. That's going to take time and until that trust is there that the Receiver will be there when the ball arrives, Alex won't throw it - just as is the case with Doctson's now. At least Floyd has a history of being physical and getting separation in his routes, something Doctson is really struggling with. I think we are in the very near future going to see Maurice Harris as our starting WR, maybe even this game against the Saints. And once we turn that corner, that will be the last time Doctson sees the outside WR spot again. He will be in the slot and in the Red zone packages alone. The writing is on the wall.

Replacing Jackson and Garcon in '17 with Doctson and Pryor? Probably the dumbest talent evaluation / roster management outcome in the current FO's run. Just an awful miscalculation. I do have hope for Richardson and fingers crossed for Floyd. But it's far more likely Big Mo joins Richardson and Crowder as the starters at wideout before Floyd might. All true, Nack.
