I'm planning a meeting in the chatroom this weekend, & after that it should be in stone, but we're looking at the weekend right before the real Draft, starting (ours) on:
Thursday, April 21 (* 5 minute time slots) ~ around 7pm (Central) Friday, April 22 Saturday, April 23

Is this 7pm EST? How late is it going to run? I sometimes work on Monday mornings at 7am EST.

Glad you made it over, KT, & good to see you 7p Central/8pm Eastern start on Thurs/Fri (you're on west coast time, right?) So short answer ~ 2 hours/40 minutes (approx) for 32 Picks (Round 1). You can ALWAYS PM me (or another Commish) your Picks & I can make them for you in your slot(s).

I am kind of sad that the IMD is so far down the road. I am ready for the real draft right now and March Madness is the only thing keeping my mind occupied for now. When the Final 4 concludes on April 4 I will be Jonesing pretty hard. Any chance we could do a dry run or two? Maybe just the 1st round or something limited without trades? Please...!

I agree with NC, im ready to get this going. lol we did a dry/trial run last yr. i think with the move to another forum this would be a good idea.

we could always use the chat to do a trial run...we could just do the first round if nothing else. If we only had 8 people show up then we'd have to each take 4 teams...just something to do for fun...anybody interested?
we could do it pretty much any night

Well the main reason why we have to wait to start the IMD is because the compensatory picks must be released and that's in late March. Add to that the late start to things and not having GMs for about a dozen teams and we'd like to push back the start date as late as we can.
I think by the beginning of April we'll have a good idea if we might be able to start earlier or not. I suppose you guys may want to run a quick trial run for a couple rounds to tide you over but I think at this point it would only take away from the actual IMD experience.

Comp picks have been awarded. Can we set a date for the IMD? Also, just want to point out that the weekend before the draft April 21-24 is Easter weekend so we may not want to do it that weekend. Maybe the week prior.

I thought about that, too, TN, & thought as long as we avoided Easter Sunday, it might be OK We wanted to give everyone as much time as possible to get familiar with the new site as well as get everything set up behind the scenes... With the shortened time slots, we could start on Thurs, April 21st. 5 minute time slots for the first Round and a half. 3 minute time slots for the subsequent Rounds - therefore we can be DONE by Saturday (day before Easter/week before the real Draft). There's been some discussion thrown around about (maybe) having a Trial Run (one Round ONLY) 2 weeks before the Real Draft, but that would only be 2 1/2 weeks away.... What we DON'T want is for there to be problems with Login/Registration/Chat Room access, etc., the Day we start, so while it'll be a LOT of work to setup, I'm not completely opposed to the idea of a Trial Run. I defer to the Big Boss (Jez), though, on this one

We'll go with the 21st, MrsMd - just wanted to ''know' and get our ringers organized too. I'll check back to see what JezCat sez, but we'll go with it for now. Great site - looking forward to this again. I'm the 3 Watt Bulb guy this year.... I'll tell our brain trust to count on Thursday, but if JezCat changes things (if needed), i'll let them know too. Thanks for the update. Huff

I've always hated beginning so near the NFL Draft personally but it should be up to you guys IMO. Easter weekend is always a problem so I'd like to avoid that. Some like to go on road trips that weekend as well. If you guys feel we can get this done before Sunday then the 21st works fine.
My son's baseball season just began so I'm at practices and games more than usual but I'll keep checking in. The Mrs likes to pretend she's not really the boss but we all know better don't we? ;D

I need to know what the stopping point will be Thurs nite. Are we doing the first round only?

Yes it will be in three days.
As for the length of time for Thursday night, it's hard to know for sure, but there will be a 5 minute time limit for each pick to be made but we'll progress to the next pick directly after the pick before is made (much like the NFL does if a team doesn't use all of their time).
So, it could take 15-30 minutes for it all or it could take 2-3 hours for it all. Depends on how long it takes everyone to make their picks.
If I was a betting man, I'd go with 1-2 hours for us to finish round 1.

If Round 1 moves quickly, we should be able to get deep into round 2 which also has a 5 minute time limit. If 11pm EDST Thurs. is reached and we a just a few picks away from finishing Rd. 2, we'll go for it.
The real key to having this move briskly is not getting bogged down with trades. There will be an "official trade thread" where trades can be proposed and agreed on. Remember the Chat Room is unofficial because there is no permanent record of this. You don't have to wait until your team is on the clock to propose a trade. You CAN use the Chat Room to ask a team to meet you in the Trade Thread to discuss a trade at any time.

I know we're going to catch crap for not having set times for teams to pick and putting them on the clock, but my Co-Commish, Joe Wash, thinks this is the key to not having the whole process drag out like the last two years. He posted approximate times for the first two rounds and moved up about 5 minutes every 30 minutes. He's willing to adjust this as we go along, but the bottom line is teams can't sign on at the last minute. I think it's worth trying.
As always, I value your feedback- Chris
