glad we pulled it out, great interception and then a sack late by Preston Smith saved our @ss. 4 fg's in the second half is a formula for losing, I just don't understand why this team can not score touchdowns in the redzone. kicking field goals just makes you a loser late, WE HAVE GOT TO TURN THIS AROUND if we are going to make the playoffs.

Believe me folks, we can't get Founette but Chubb is the second best back of this class and we need to use a second on him if possible. He is IMO Zeke without the price tag. There was a reason we took Marshall and IMO It was because Chubb was on our radar. We go Hooker at S and Chubb if he's there and we won't be sorry.

Do you wonder why other teams can't score regularly in the redzone brother? There is good reason and it''s obvious. We need to be running more of that 'bannana' play like Jon Gruden grilled Luck about on his ESPN QB show. Remember when I said we needed to use Kelley as a FB and hit him in the flats a few weeks ago and the first time we did it it worked?

I outlined how to fix this in another thread. In my opinion, they need to go "old school" if you will and pound the crap out of Kelly down there. He showed against the Bengals that he can get it into the end zone. So lets give him more then one token run down there. The benefit of doing this, even if it doesn't always work, is it makes the defense respect the run and prepare for the run which will open up some of those passing routes that are getting smothered right now. Everyone and there mother knows we're not going to run the ball once we get down there. So the defense knows they don't have to defend against the run. Therefore they flood the end zone with bodies which makes for very few throwing windows for Cousins. I firmly believe that running the ball will open this up more.
Also, our OC and HC need to get more creative down there. AND I'm not talking fade throws either. Play action, fake screens, misdirection plays, delayed runs, OL eligible, etc etc. We run the same plays down there and then wonder why they don't work any more. That play we used so much last year to get so many TD's for Reed is getting smothered now because everyone knows it's coming. Lets get creative folks. Hell I saw the Jets use the hook and ladder on Sunday. Petty threw it to Marshall who flipped it to Powell who went around the end for a TD. That's what we need. Nothing silly or cute. Make the damn defense think for a change and we'll have a much better chance of beating them. At least in my humble opinion.

I agree completely on running the ball. Being so one dimensional down there is killing us. However, I think the key to improving our red zone success is to immediately STOP these one read pass plays. We move the ball beautifully up and down the field, with Cousins picking apart the defense using his second or third or fourth read. Then we get down to the red zone, and half the pass plays seem to be "throw it this one guy on this one route or throw it away". We turn into a pitcher who decides he's throwing a curve ball, and if a hitter is sitting on the curve then he's screwed. I think it's been banged into either Cousins or our coaches heads that pass plays in the red zone have to be quick hitting--that they can't take time to develop. That's simply not true, and it's taking away the most dynamic part of our offense--Cousins decision making.

I have to say that I agree with your here. I don't know if it's Gruden's mindset that he doesn't want to take a chance on a INT or if he just doesn't have the killer instinct to try to get 6 every time and is fine with a FG and 3 points. Or, of course, it could very well be Cousins not wanting to take the chance that if he does throw a few picks in the endzone, as he did earlier this year, that it will hurt his chances of getting a nice fat contract at the end of the season.
I think all of these ideas would help us tremendously if the OC and HC would just take them to heart and listen to us. haha

But you need a plan B (at least). Mine is Jeremy McNichols out of Boise St. While Chubb reminds of Zeke, McNichols reminds me of Jaamal Charles. He is a 3 down threat to take it to the house anytime he touches the ball. Speed to burn. Great receiver out of the backfield. Good blocker in pass pro. He has 1700+ yards from scrimmage (1300+ on the ground) and 22 total TDs (18 rushing, 4 receiving). He is a just a bit smaller (5'9" 207# vs 5'10" 220). I would be very happy with either of these kids, and we might be able to get McNichols in round 3, but I imagine he is going to climb the draft board charts and likely a late 2nd rounder.

I don't see Charles in him at all. I loved Charles and was pissed we didn't give up a 5th rounder to get him when Vinny was here. Charles at Texas was unreal and went waaay under drafted. The guy was simply amazing in college and had that unique burst and acceleration I look for in RB's. Chubb isn't quite on that level but McNick isn't close from the vids I've watched. The thing I like about him is his vision and the way he sets up blocks. He reminds of Arian Foster in that way. I really don't care what round we take a RB in as I see D as our biggest focal point. I'd love back to back S picks or A RB/S rotation but at the end of the day this draft falls right into our wheel house of needs and that's great strategy by our GM.

I'd love back to back S picks or A RB/S rotation but at the end of the day this draft falls right into our wheel house of needs and that's great strategy by our GM. Most of the clips I've seen of McNichols has him as more of a receiver out of the backfield, but when he gets in open space he is really dangerous. However, from the few clips I've seen of him running, he has some power as well as good vision. Plus he goes from 0 to top speed at the jump...he seems to skip the lower gears altogether. Even though most clips I've seen so far are as a receiver, he must be doing something right on the ground to put up back to back 1300+ rushing seasons and 18 rushing TD's this year. The guys I'm looking at right now in the 1st are a couple of ILB, Reuben Foster and R. MacMillian, Safties Peppers (likely to be a top 5-10 pick), Adams and Hooker. Doesnt' look like a 1st round center in the draft this year. I haven't looked at the top DL players yet, other than the ones I saw while looking at Michigan players while checking out Mason Cole. Saw quite a few Michigan players I wouldn't mind us drafting at some point....that is one loaded team this year.
