This team is under cap pressure and has a lot of players who are overpaid contract vs performance wise, some that are perennially injury prone, and some high priced guys coming to the end of their careers.
This team needs to make cap room. So these are the guys on the list are the big ticket savings players, excluding Alex Smith who has already been covered. I’ll just cover net savings in 2019, and any future dead cap implications on post June 1 cuts.
Players who we should look to trade first, but cut if we can’t
1. CB Josh Norman – the classic underperformer $$ vs performance level. I’d see a team like the Raiders being interested for a 4th.
Trade – save $8.500m in 2019
If pre June 1 cut – save $8.500m in 2019
If cut post June 1 – save $11.500m in 2019, $3.0m dead cap in 2020.
2. TE Jordan Reed – always injury prone but someone may take a chance on him staying healthy. A 4th or 5th rounder maybe.
Trade – save $6.074m in 2019
If pre June 1 cut – save $6.074m in 2019
If cut post June 1 – save $7.874m in 2019, $1.8m dead cap in 2020.
This is an extensive amount of work, more so than I am willing to put in on this franchise.
And to be really honest, probably more than this franchise actually puts in.
I didn't see mention of Doctson, whom I would try to trade right away, and then cut if no trade.
Maybe I missed that.
I actually learned something about the Smith deal.
This should be ran on a non-stop look... just how bad this front office is.
I knew it was tough to swallow, but I had at least hoped he would play for 2/3 years....
In retrospect, this now makes it apparent that the Redskins Front office has no idea of what they are doing.
Let's just forget how they committed a foul in screwing up home grown talent in Cousins.
Unfortunately, as I outlined in another post, until things change, nothing really matters.
Good work man!
