Fact: The Redskins did not have any other team beating a path to Redskins Park before the trade deadline for any players not named Williams.
That's because the Redskins roster is not a plethora of talented players.
It's a case like in the example of New England who did a obligatory call on Williams and as soon as "Bruce the Stupid" answered the phone, it was understood that
the Redskins are too stupid to deal with.
I think it is a case of the latter.
We see former Redskins players sprinkled throughout the NFL doing well.
Preston Smith is doing very well in Green Bay.. there are others.
Ad Nausea, I think the problem is the person(s) picking the talent and those who are to coach them. (yawn)
The sad news is that the Redskins are very likely to wind up with the 2 to 4 slot in the upcoming draft and stand a chance for the #1 slot if a few things fell into place.
But the bubble is busted as soon as one factors in Bruce Allen and his crew.
Let's face it, not many teams would draft a 4,000 yard passer and think 'let 'em walk' is the answer as opposed to drafting more weapons to support him.
(note: Washington could have signed him before things went sour to a reasonable contract... the Vikings contract is ridiculous but had this played right, it would have never happened.)
What a prime opportunity it would seem, on the surface, to come here.
A Head Coach position is open with a fresh faced young QB, a young RB, and a talented WR AND a pretty formidable front 4 on defense.
Add that to a 1-4 pick and you got a recipe to find a great coach eager to start.
but then, Bruce "the clown prince of the culture club" gives you a call.... *Pop* that's the sound of the bubble of hope bursting.
Just think if the clueless wonder boy had made a couple of trades, even the Trent Williams to Cleveland deal, to collect those extra picks
A couple smart moves on draft day, you have two brand spanking new linemen on the offense, a TE and CB and maybe more.
The real dud will come in the off season when Bruce Allen starts making some calls to trade Williams...
You're a genius Mr. Allen (Sung to the "Mr Grinch" tune)
