I truly enjoyed watching our win. The running game finally worked the way I thought it could at the season's start. The defensive line finally applied pressure the way I though they would at the season's start (no Kerrigan, no problem). We scored some TDs as opposed to FGs.
But consider. We're up 29-14 with about 3 minutes to play. What happens then? All of a sudden, our defense resorts to what we've seen all season. WRs running wide open in huge seams in the defense. We don't have a man on Moore? So they move down the field with ease. They score on us. And all the Redskins and staff are laughing and having a great time on the sideline. Obvious on side kick coming. When it does, the ball passes SDH and he doesn't more for it. Neither does Jimmy Moreland. Amazing, but Carolina recovers it much deeper than the 10 yards the ball has to travel. They have good field position. And what happens? They move right down the field. They're on the goal line. It's their last play....go back and look at it. They had a WR running free in the end zone. Their QB didn't see him and ends up with the sack-fumble. But had they scored, anyone think they would NOT have converted that 2 pointer? We came very close to losing a game where we had a 15 point lead at the 2:00 mark. It would have been an incredible collapse.
Anyone here feeling real confident on the Panthers final drive? I sure wasn't.
What happened to the D in that final 4 minutes or so?

Special Teams let them down. Everybody in the Western Hemisphere knew an onside kick was coming, yet they didn't look like they were prepared. I was not confident in the Defense either.

The onside kick coverage was bad no doubt. The defense on the last drive was the old prevent strategy. Just keep it in front of you and in bounds. Once they got to the goal line they set their teeth and did one hell of a job. That whole drive was planned just the way it went defensively.

Whoever invented the Prevent Defense should be tarred and feathered, drawn and quartered, strung up by their toes, ridden out of town on a rail, and any other unpleasantry you can think of.
That person ranks up there right behind the inventor of the neck tie.
All the Prevent Defense does is prevent the defending team from winning.

Yep, they'll miss Driskell and Allen when Aaron is lighting it up this weekend...

Yeah, no one should be more than just happy about it. Excited? No way. Two back up QBs and lines that were in shambles. You have to play the team in front of you, and bravo to our back ups for beating their backups. But neither of those games should be considered more than just evaluations.
Guice looks amayyyyyyyzing. Our rookie WRs are showing up. Our defense is better without Josh Norman. Just let that be enough.
Haskins has made a little progress. That's a good thing. But I still don't think he's good enough to become the long term starter.

Probably agree with a lot of what Kilmer wrote. Also hate the prevent D...like 67 elaborated on. I think if we would have kept pressure on Allen he would have continued his Grossman-esque collapse from his performance in the first qtr.
Look I am happy for back to back Victory Mondays....being able to tell my Turd and Fecal supporting friends that we will win the division with a late season surge....and for good measure we are no longer cellar dwellars in the NFC east...so I get to harass my G-string friends.
A good weekend for Skins fans....

Guice had to prove his durability and perform as well. he's starting to do that. The talent was always there, that was never the issue.
Haskins gets better with each game, again, he started from a long way back experience wise and its baby steps.
Flowers and Christian looked really good. Like what I'm seeing here.
Like Moreau's development as well, still a bit bumpy in patches but the guy creates turnovers.
Orchard was fantastic in his first NFL game in some time, just keep Manusky away from him. Lets hope he can keep that up.

That one (and last) run of the 2018 pre-season game told me he was going to be good. No PRich, and no Quinn for a lot of the game. Haskins isn't lighting it up, but I've been very impressed with our 3 other young wideouts. Terry, Harmon and Sims look like keepers. The jury is still out on Quinn, but he hasn't impressed me much this season. Hopefully he clears the concussion protocol and gets back on the field soon. The more looks he gets will give us a better idea if we need to replace him with Sims, or go find another slot WR. Where did Bergstrom spend most of his time? In the Post Game show, Trevor Matich was going on and on about how Berg was playing the 6th OL/TE spot. But in chat it sounded like he had replaced Roullier.

Thanks Nack. Nice rotation of the RBs as well. And that seemed to work nicely to the tune of 250+ yards on the ground.
Sims looked good in that role too.

It's early to speculate on their careers after less than one full Pro season, but to have 3 potential starting WR from one draft class, and the highest pick was a 3rd rounder....still amazes me.

If Haskins is the answer, we have a nice foundation at the skill position players with Love hopefully coming back healthy next year. Hopefully SIms takes the slot position and runs with it.

A good weekend for Skins fans.... Holy smokes, you are right --four games to go and 3 behind the Cowboys and 2 behind the Eagles---we are still technically alive in the NFCE---we basically need to go 4-0 with the Cowboys and Eagles essentially losing out---not probable but we actually have something to play for in December this year ( and I never thought that would be the case a month ago)--now Mr. Rogers and company may end the dream before it hardly starts but Bruce could honestly say we are still in it with only three wins in the first week in December

Understand the sentiment, but TC.... how depressing. First Bruce takes away the team, then hope, and now you're taking away our coping mechanism. If we have to stay sober how are we supposed to endure this? 😉😝

The best thing that prevent defense prevents is victory. Just saying. Special Teams let them down. Everybody in the Western Hemisphere knew an onside kick was coming, yet they didn't look like they were prepared. I was not confident in the Defense either.

It's was time. Quinn hasn't been the same since he was injured in the opening game last year. JMO. Am I wrong? If so, I'll take the hit.

Our ST coach doesn't have much of a good track record. Why he was hired is beyond me. We could have done much better, I think.

It’s kind of funny reading the comments about the prevent defense. Everyone always hates it, but you gotta admit it worked perfectly for us to end this game. No sideline plays to stop the clock and they kept them out of the end zone somehow. I don’t like it either but it’s better than getting beat by a long bomb TD.

He had a receiver WIDE open on the right side of the field. Easy touchdown if he looks that way.

They moved the ball down the field at will to score, making it a one score (plus a 2 pt cvt) to tie the game. Then we botched the onside, putting them on a short field with plenty of time to score. We reverted back to the defense that had gotten us from being down 0-14 to being up by 15 points. Then we got the sack fumble to seal the victory. But the Prevent Winning Defense almost cost us the game.

I have never liked it - Keep everything in front of you and in bounds, run the clock or force timeouts. A cover two would work well... I guess it also depends on the points and the clock.... It might just boild down that I am the type that doesn't like to just beat them up, I want to step on their neck and drown them in a mudhole... The best Prevent Defense is a dominant running game on offense. Stay in bounds and let the clock just tick away. Eat up yards and clock 4 yards at a time. The other team can't score with an effective ground and pound offense...preferably one capped off by a score.

Heck, combined running attack shielded 248 yards! Just thrilled!
But in another thread, not happy with that prevent garbage D to keep the game TOO close in the end.
Would just love to know why O'Connell decided to STICK with the run the way he did.

That was Callahan's plan of record. He commented on it during the Presser that they stuck with it by design.
Its hard to say how much input O'Connell has to the Offense anymore beyond getting Haskins up to speed..
